Summary

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP is looking a Sr. Virtual Desktop Engineer to support our Enterprise Platforms Group within the Information Technology department. Willkie is an elite international law firm of approximately 1,200 lawyers located in 15 offices in six countries. 

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years’ experience to be a part of our Enterprise Platforms Group within the Information Technology department. The Sr. Virtual Desktop Engineer will be is responsible for contributing to the strategy, design, and management of our virtualized desktop infrastructure across on-premises and cloud platforms. This role will also help guide our future direction by evaluating, recommending, and potentially implementing additional end-user computing solutions to support our business objectives, including migrating from Citrix to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The ideal candidate is an eager problem solver who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior engineer of the virtual desktop architecture team, ensuring high performance, reliability, and ongoing improvements to the environment.
  • Along with the senior manager, lead the architecture, design, and optimization of virtual desktop environments, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Assess additional end-user computing technologies such as Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), FSLogix, and User Profile Management (UPM) to support deployments.
  • Work closely with IT, Network, Security, and Application teams to deliver integrated solutions, addressing complex technical issues related to virtual desktop and end-user computing.
  • Assist the team with escalated support and management of enterprise applications and software across multiple environments (e.g., AVD, Windows, and mobile).
  • Lead the migration efforts from Citrix environments to Azure Virtual Desktop, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing and architecting large-scale Citrix environments with proven expertise in performance and reliability.
  • Virtual Desktop Technologies: Expert knowledge in Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and experience with managing AVD in hybrid or cloud-only environments.
  • Profile Management, Application Control, and User Personalization: Strong knowledge of profile and user personalization management, including experience with User Profile Management (UPM), Ivanti Workspace Control (formerly Appsense), and Ivanti Application Control and WDAC for secure and customized user experiences.
  • Familiarity with Supporting Technologies: Knowledge of additional technologies like FSLogix and Nerdio for managing AVD.
  • Extensive experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policies, PowerShell, and scripting for automation.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, VMware, and Hyper-V) with experience integrating virtual desktop environments with cloud and virtualized data centers.
  • Proficient in managing and optimizing virtual environments using Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Microsoft certifications for Azure Virtual Desktop highly regarded. Citrix certifications (e.g., CCP-V, CCE-V) are a plus but not required.
  • Citrix Knowledge: Prior experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (XenApp/XenDesktop), NetScaler (Citrix ADC), Citrix Gateway, MCS, PVS, and Citrix Cloud deployments is a nice to have.

  • Ability to work in close proximity to other individuals

  • Must be able to lift, carry and move objects [up to 15/20/25 lbs OR in excess of 25/30 lbs]

Pay Range

USD $165,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.

Pay Range Statement

The salary range for this role represents the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications and location.
