Summary

The New York office of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP is looking for a Communications and Public Relations Intern to support the Client Development & Marketing Department. Willkie is an elite international law firm of approximately 1,300 lawyers located in 16 offices in six countries.

 

The Communications and Public Relations Intern will assist with a variety of public relations and communications functions, including media list maintenance, reporter tracking, legal news monitoring, media research, content drafting, and cross-team collaboration. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with strong research, writing, and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a genuine interest in legal marketing and communications.

 

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a law firm environment. Candidates should be willing to work a minimum of 15 hours a week, not exceeding over 25 hours a week for a yearlong internship.

Responsibilities

  • Update media lists, track reporter moves and inform team of key reporter moves.
  • Collaborate closely with PR/Communications team, providing proactive and responsive support in executing on communications strategies and day-to-day business needs.
  • Monitor legal news and developments in traditional publications and on social media platforms.
  • Research projects relating to media coverage, key reporters and trending topics
  • Draft and edit basic news announcements and speaking engagements for the firm’s intranet and external website.
  • Regularly collaborate with the Business Development team and other internal stakeholders on various projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or recently received (within the last 12 months) an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field, with current standing as a graduating senior or recent graduate
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Ability to conduct research using various databases and online platforms
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and take initiative

  • Ability to sit at a desk most of the working day and walk short distances
  • Needs manual dexterity, speed and accuracy in handling office equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption
  • Ability to work in close proximity to other individuals
  • Ability to carry light objects, e.g., files, small objects and supplies a short distance

 

Employment Status

Pay Range

USD $19.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.

Pay Range Statement

This position is a part-time hourly role and benefits eligibility will be more limited. Candidates should direct questions about benefits to the hiring manager for clarification as needed.
